What is the largest national park in the United States?

Janique Goff Madison loves national parks as much as he loves photographing wildlife in them. To her, national parks are more than just attractions; they are the gifts that past generations have left the present and what the present will leave the future generations. What’s more, is that Janique loves to blog about her adventures in these blogs.

For this blog, Janique talks about the massive Wrangell-St. Elias, the largest national park in the United States.

To put things in perspective, Wrangell-St. Elias can fit six Yellowstone parks. That’s more than 13 million acres. Wrangell-St. Elias is so vast that it makes the more popular large parks in the U.S. look extremely traversable in comparison. The park is as big as Switzerland, Yellowstone, and Yosemite combined.

There are two parts to Wrangell-St. Elias. There’s the park that’s 8 million acres, and the preserve that’s 5 million acres.

Along with the two active volcanoes in the park, Mt. Wrangell and Mt. Churchill, there’s also an endless array of species for wildlife enthusiasts. From the Alaskan moose to the different types of bears to bison, there are creatures big and small for all animal lovers to enjoy. Wrangell-St. Elias is also home to the largest number of Dall sheep in North America, with almost 13,000 of these beautiful, peaceful creatures.

But for people such as Janique Goff Madison, the true prize in Wrangell-St. Elias lies in the air and sea, where the 93 species of birds and the countless sea animals such as whales, sea lions, and seals all combine for a natural symphony unlike any other.
